UN.BE.LIEVABLE!!!!!!!!
Never ever go to Pat Lobb Toyota of Mckinney. On Saturday evening we were driving down the 75 to Dallas. All of a sudden our '08 Rav4 turns off, then turns on, turns off, and repeats this several times. We are literally going 70 miles per hour down the freeway and our car just completely turns off and on repeatedly. No power steering, lights, a/c, nothing. Of course we are driving in the HOV lane where there is no shoulder to pull off and the cone things are on the side of us blocking us from being able to get off of the road. Finally there was a few broken cones so Kel weaves out as fast as he can to dodge the next ones. We exit the 75 and our car totally dies. Won't restart, nothing. Kel thinks that there might be a short or bad connection so he checks and finds nothing. We then try to jump our car and nothing. A little later we try to jump again and it starts. We bought it less than a year ago brand new from the dealership off of the 75 in McKinney. We get back in the car and limp it back there. It continues to do the same thing. Meanwhile we are jerking back and forth in our car because of this, we feel a little reassurance because it is under warranty and whatever is wrong will be fixed. BOY, WERE WE WRONG! When we walk into Pat Lobb of McKinney and tell the receptionist guy what is going on this is what he says, "Sorry, the Service Department just closed. The ONLY WAY WE CAN HELP YOU IS IF YOU BUY A NEW CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!" There was no, I'm so sorry to hear that, let me see what we can do to help you. NOTHING! We are shocked! Yeah, let's just go ahead and buy a new car! This one that we bought from you is working out so well for us and you have just been so helpful. Sign us right up!!! We tell him we need to talk to a manager. Finally after a LONG wait this slimy (literally inside and out) manager comes to us and treats us like we are the scum of the earth. He goes outside to look at our car with us and asks a list of ridiculous questions such as, "where do you get your car serviced?" We get our oil changed at Wal-Mart. He then sarcastically says, "that explains a lot." What?! Are you kidding me?! Because we get our oil changed at Wal-Mart our 10 month old car should turn completely off and on at 75 miles per hour repeatedly?! Wow, this guys was obviously not running on a full deck. Then he proceeds to say, "CAN'T HELP YOU UNLESS YOU BUY A NEW CAR."!!!!!!!!! OK, this is shear craziness! Understandably Kel started to get a little short with him and this guy did not like that. Who is above you? Tim Anderson. OK, we go inside. We need to talk to Tim Anderson. About 45 minutes later Tim comes strolling out. Great, he's also the stereotypical slimy car salesman. Greased back hair, gold chains, shirt undone. Terrific. Long story shortened a bit, he is very rude, doesn't want to lift a finger to help us. We ask who is in charge of the service department to see if we can call him and work something out for a loaner car so that we can leave our car there and go home. Impossible. Well, who's above him. "I am" he says. So you are above him, but you can't I mean won't help us. In the warranty pamphlets it states that if your car needs to stay overnight to be looked at that a loaner would be given. Oh no. Not if your car breaks down at 5:30 instead of 5 p.m. Apparently your warranty is void! OK, so Tim was no way no how going to help us. So we go out to our car just in complete awe. Jump it and the car continues the same thing on the way home until it just dies in the middle of the road on Elderado. We roll it into a parking lot and just sit there. We ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BELIEVE THAT WE WERE SENT BACK HOME IN OUR CAR AND NOW WE ARE BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT WON'T JUMP AT ALL THIS TIME! What? How? Why? WOW! Unbelievable! Ended up getting it home awhile later and we still don't know what we are going to do about our car. We DON'T EVER want to go there again. We are just completely and totally...wow. Just please don't EVER CONSIDER GOING TO PAT LOBB TOYOTA OF MCKINNEY.

Why do car salesman have to be like that?!?!?! When we bought our car Rod went through the internet used car salesman. For some reason he wasn't as slimey as the ones selling the cars on the lot.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. We've always had great experiences there. :( They've given loaners when we haven't even needed one---
ReplyDeleteOH MY!
ReplyDelete1st go to the service dept. of another Toyota dealership--under warranty you can go to any dealership. Second talk to the manager there and tell him the situation. Then I would seriously write to someone very high up in Toyota and explain this whole thing. keep us updated on this. THIS IS SO UNBELIEVABLE you are right!
We also went through internet salesman with my van 2 years ago an had a good experience...and have had great service at Honda of McKinney since then.
So sorry:( This is CRAZY--I can't believe it. I can't believe how RUDE they were!
I'm sorry, Juli! That sux.
ReplyDeleteJust want to remind you that not all car salemen are slimy. :o)
I live with a very honest one who works for a great dealership!
I agree with Amanda, you can go to any Toyota dealership and they should honor the warranty, then I'd definitely complain to Toyota. It is not a good time for dealerships to be taking customers for granted!! Good Luck!!
Any car repair shop can take your warranty ... not just any dealership. Find a good mechanic (outside of a dealership) that you like. I hate dealerships. I've had work done there and I don't think that they even do the work.
ReplyDeleteYou can take it to a City Garage, a Goodyear, a Merlins, whatever, where ever, and your warranty is good. It's something that the dealership DOES NOT want you to know. I had TONS of warranty work done on my car at a tiny little mechanic shop. They are now out of business {thanks to the recession}, but the service was phenomenal.
GOOD LUCK!!! xoxo.
I'd like to revise my statement to read:
ReplyDeleteExcept for Sewell Lexus. When I had warranty work done at Sewell, they gave me a free loaner AND did the work, instead of pretending to do the work. :D
Janette--Lexus has like THE BEST customer service EVER! You get a loner for pretty much anything! Makes me want to buy a Lexus next go round (in like 10 years!)
ReplyDeleteand I do have to say---I have had some work done (okay A LOT of work done) from my wreck on my van at the dealership and I was so happy with their service and the work they did. It was all work that could be see or felt when driving and I wanted Honda rims to match my other ones and Honda Certified parts b/c if you don't use their parts for certain things the warranty is void.
Thanks for the info. everyone! I had no idea that you could take your car anywhere and the warranty was good. So thanks for that. And Andrea, we were actually thinking the whole time we wish we could work with Maris. We actually just found out that he sells more than Hummers too. Definitely good to know!
ReplyDeleteOh my heck!!! That is so frustrating. I probably would have said a few choice words to them. I am so sorry that had to happen to you guys. Hope you get everything figured out. Let me know if you need anything!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's horrible! Really, who does that? how incredibly frustrating.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am soooo glad you posted this. Even today we are still talking about it. You're right, Unbelievable
ReplyDeleteWow! So sorry, that sounds so frustrating! That is really unbelievable, you should write a letter and complain. That is aweful service.
ReplyDeleteits funny we buy from direct sellers and carry AAA my mom swears by dealers because of the warranty and "you can take it back"
ReplyDeleteAs you can see its not always the case. I love our mechanic - Burdick Auto they have always done great stuff for our classified ad cars even though we haven't actually needed much work other than regular maintenance
So sorry to hear about your awful experience at the dealership. That's why I stick to Honda :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband will be happy to take a look at it. He's a mechanic. Let me know.
Oh, this is Carrie Hutchinson, BTW.

ReplyDeleteI HATE car salesmen, we have ONLY dealt with slimy ones. I HATE buying cars, it drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI hope you write a letter.
I won't be going there.
I would also write a letter to Toyota so they know about it too.
Oh how awful!!! I do hope you give an update, because I want to see how this one winds up! And I will never go to that dealership, knowing the service, or lack thereof, they gave you!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carrie. We will definitly go to him whenever we need anything. Kel put a new battery and it seems to be working fine so far. I don't know if there is a short somewhere and it will drain down the battery. I just don't know. We'll see!
